 Another year, 1991, of Portland Wrestlers volunteering their time for the MDA Telethon.

If you called in and pledged at least $15, you could talk to the wrestler of your choice. I called in, and guess who I wanted to talk to? Steve Doll, of course. I waited about 30 minutes to talk to him. When I finally did, I was so excited! When I told him who I was, he laughed and said, "You waited half an hour to talk to me on the phone? Aren't you coming to the arena tonight?" I said, "Sure, but I've never talked to you on the phone before!" That made him laugh. I told him that I appreciated that he was always willing to give his time to help good causes. He said he was always happy to help in any way he could, thanked me for the donation, and said he'd see me tonight. It was a short conversation, but I got to talk to him on the phone!!!😀

Candy Jones - Portland Wrestling Fan! - Photos and Story

Candy Jones and I were Portland Sports Arena fans around the same time.  She's even got some photos that prove we were probably standing very close together on a certain night! 😊  She shared some of those great photos on the Fans of Portland Wrestling Group on Facebook recently, and I asked if I could share them here too.  Hopefully, we can get her to share more of her amazing collection in the future.

This is my photo from that same night!  

Candy in the hospital at 13 with two surprise visitors.

The nurse saw her wrestling t-shirt and photos and made a call that got Steve and Top Gun to come visit.  Candy says that Steve recognized her and said, "Oh my goodness, Candy, I didn't realize it was you, sweetheart."  Steve was always so great with the fans!

May 23, 1992, clipping from the Express Weekly Advertiser. There wasn't much coverage on TV, so we had to get our match lineups from the paper. Some cable channels aired the show, but I didn't have any of them. Did you? Always looking for tape from those days! This is just one week before Don Owen retired.

 Happy Birthday, Brian Adams(4/14). In the 80s we always thought it was in January, so that's when I think about his birthday. He'd have been 63 this year. He gave the best big bear hugs.

Friday nights in Eugene were a staple in Portland Wrestling.

I hear that the dressing room was so small that only 2 guys could change

at one time, and everyone else would have to sit in folding chairs in the hallway.
