1991 KPTV MDA Telethon w/Roddy Piper Steve Doll Bart Sawyer John Rambo Grappler

Another year, 1991, of Portland Wrestlers volunteering their time for the MDA Telethon.

If you called in and pledged at least $15, you could talk to the wrestler of your choice. I called in, and guess who I wanted to talk to? Steve Doll, of course. I waited about 30 minutes to talk to him. When I finally did, I was so excited! When I told him who I was, he laughed and said, "You waited half an hour to talk to me on the phone? Aren't you coming to the arena tonight?" I said, "Sure, but I've never talked to you on the phone before!" That made him laugh. I told him that I appreciated that he was always willing to give his time to help good causes. He said he was always happy to help in any way he could, thanked me for the donation, and said he'd see me tonight. It was a short conversation, but I got to talk to him on the phone!!!😀

KPTV 1992 MDA Telethon with Roddy Piper, The Grappler, Don Coss, Steve Doll and Mike Winner

Just a quick snippet from one of the TV breaks from the MDA Telethon in 1992. Portland Wrestlers were involved in this every year. These guys did charity events every weekend and worked tirelessly to raise money to help those in need. Truly good human beings.

Meeting Rowdy Roddy Piper For The First Time 1989 - Fire Extinguisher Poster

In 1989, Roddy Piper did a workout with the Grappler/Nord the Barbarian after the matches. At that event, they sold this poster. Roddy stayed and signed for hours. He was chatting with everyone. When I got to the front of the line, he asked me if it was my first time at the Sports Arena. I told him I go every Saturday night and he said that the wrestlers really appreciated my support. That kind of changed the way I thought about being a fan.

He also asked me who my favorite wrestler was. I said "Steve Doll", which made him laugh out loud. He said that I was the first person all night to not say him. I shrugged and said, "I like Steve Doll." He said, "That's okay. I like Steve Doll, too."
I sold this years ago when I needed some cash. I regret it.

PCW 1995 Photos & Poster - What Happened to Pacific Championship Wrestling?

In February of 1994, Richard Small debuted Pacific Championship Wrestling (PCW).  Richard was the owner of the Portland Rage roller hockey team. The matches were held at the Mount Scott Community Center in SE Portland.  They got a TV deal, and there was one televised event.  Richard Small was a religious man who shared his faith inside the evening's programs.  It is believed that the promoter found that the world of wrestling didn't fit into his religious worldview and decided to end the promotion after barely a month.  An event had been announced for March 24, 1995, at the Lung Fung Event Center that would feature Southern Rocker Steve Doll, who was still under contract with the WWF at the time.  This event was cancelled.  On the night of the event, a sign was displayed in the parking lot that read, "No Wrestling Tonight."

It was a fun promotion featuring many of our favorites.
It's too bad it didn't last.
I mean, at least ONE more week!!! 😭

A New Camera For Christmas - 1987

For Christmas in 1987, I got a Camera and film, plus tickets to the Christmas Extravaganza at the Sports Arena. A 110 camera and maybe 6 rolls of film. For quite some time, I had been wanting to take pictures at wrestling, and was super excited to finally get the chance. Over the years, I took thousands of photos of every Portland wrestler. Mostly Steve Doll, to be honest, but sometimes the other guys too! 😂 A cheap camera, bad batteries, and low-quality film often meant that the pictures didn't come out great, or at all. But sometimes I got lucky and captured something great. The first photo is my first photo with Steve Doll, December 26, 1987.

One of my favorite Southern Rockers photos.

Amazing Garage Sale Finds! - Portland Wrestling & OWF Programs & Roddy Piper PWI Magazine

I was garage saling on Friday and came across a sale with these awesome items!
I so RARELY find Portland Wrestling items in the wild!
I have the Portland (3-19-1989) and three of the OWF(1988) scanned and in the archive already.  The one with Billy Jack on the cover is new to me.
I will also be scanning and sharing the Roddy Piper article from Pro Wrestling
Illustrated in 1992.  Some of these will end up in my ebay store

The funniest part is that I was watching the show (3-19-1989) from
the Portland Program just the night before!
