Portland Wrestling Program - June 13, 1987 - We Welcome New Comer STEVE DOLL!

This is a re-share of a post I made earlier this year.

1986 and early 1987 were lean times for Portland Wrestling, to be honest.

The main event for this show is Mark Young & Art Barr VS Art Crews & Joey Jackson.

I recently heard someone say that things really started to turn around in mid-1987, and 

that was attributed to the Grappler.  He was a great heel, and when he started booking 

things really did turn a corner. But I have some different ideas about what might have kicked 

off that change. Steve Doll!  He came to the Northwest from World Class in June. He was put together to team with Scott Peterson in July, and it was on from there.  

It did not matter who they were up against; the crowd was CRAZY for the Southern Rockers. 

 

Portland Wrestling 6/11/88 Back Street Survival Match Grappler & Col DeBeers v Scott Peterson & The Assassin

Back Street Survival Match - Everyone is tied in the corner by the other locker room, and whoever gets out of the ties first gets to attack the other side. The Grappler & Col DeBeers versus Scott Peterson and The Assassin Billy Two Eagles, Steve Doll, Mike Golden, Avalanche, CW Bergstrom, and Art Barr do the tying up. Matt Borne comes in for the rescue! PLUS an interview with Stevve Doll, Scott Peterson, The Assassin, and Matt Borne.

Northwest Canadian Wrestling News - Wrestling World Article - 1988?

Most wrestling magazines covered very little Portland Wrestling, but I always liked

to pick up magazines with articles that included Portland wrestlers.  This article focuses on 

what is happening in Canadian wrestling at the time but mentions many current(at the time), and future Portland Wrestlers.

A Special Birthday For Me In 1988

Me with the Southern Rockers!

 In 1988, my mom wrote Steve Doll a letter asking him to come to our house for my birthday! (On June 4th) He didn't come because he was at a charity event (He pretty much did those every single weekend), but he did send his wife at the time. She brought over a few signed photos, front-row tickets for that night, and a signed ring-worn bandana. At an event a week later, I was buying my first Southern Rockers t-shirt, and he told the gal taking the money that I didn't have to pay because it was my birthday. That's the blue one I'm wearing. (Yes, I still have it.) The only thing I don't still have is the bandana, which I always kept with me and was stolen with my purse in 1994.

My mom asked him to kiss me for that photo. I was SO EMBARASSED! I have another somewhere of both Steve and Scott kissing me at the same time! It kind of caused a melee because now all of the girls wanted a picture like that, and Steve actually said out loud so that everyone around could hear, "Sorry, girls. We aren't going to be doing any more kissing pictures. That was only for Jody because she's special!"

It was a great birthday!!!

 on the road after his car broke down.

Portland Championship Wrestling Program - May 19, 2000 - Bart Sawyer & Billy Two Eagles In A Hair Match!

Bart Sawyer lost the hair match to Billy Two Eagles.

Bart was a heel at this point, and everyone wanted to see him get his head shaved!

After the match, while he was "knocked out," people got to get up in the ring

and take a Polaroid with Bart with a shaved head.  Tons of people came up to get the picture. 

I did too!  I leaned over to him and said that this was a genius idea!  

He couldn't help but smile.  😁

I can't seem to find that picture.

Championship Wrestling USA Program - September 19, 1992 - Double Main Events

The last program I have from 1992. Not sure why, I do have several from 1993 as well,

so maybe they got misplaced along the way.  I do remember it being hard to watch the decline

of Portland Wrestling after they lost TV.  There was still some TV on various cable channels 

through various cable systems.  We didn't have any of the channels.  I would sometimes go to 

my grandparents to watch, but they would get annoyed that I was there to watch wrestling instead

of visiting with them. 😆

 

Championship Wrestling USA Program - September 5, 1992 - Steve Doll Returns Tackles John Rambo

Steve Doll returned the week before, wearing a mask and calling

himself the Silver Bullet.  I missed it!
