Wrestle Mania XIX - Al Snow & Maven

So, not exactly Portland Wrestling, but, Wrestle-Mania came to Seattle in 2003.  At the fan Axess festival, we go the chance to meet Al Snow and Maven.  We were big fans of the show Tough Enough, so it was a cool photo opportunity.

My sister and I are with Al Snow and Maven.

More interesting stuff on ebay! Posters!

These listings have ended.

s

This cool poster is from the 60's, they say, and features Tough Tony Borne, who looked like an old man even when he was young.  At $249.99, the price is pretty steep for some history!
This was Thursday, August 29, 1963.

This was Tuesday, May 25, 1971

$29.99 is a little more reasonable for this Northwest Gem.  This event, promoted by
Elton Owen, was held in Corvallis, Oregon at the American Legion.
It's kind of funny how they listed everyone's weight on the poster, as if that is going to get you to go to the show!

Wrestling Spectacular III - May 21, 1986? - Seattle Center Arena - Newspaper Clipping

I think this is 1986. Correct me if I am wrong.
Looks like a fun card.

Rocky "Soulman" Johnson in attendance.
Brady Boone and Coco Samoa seem like an odd pair.
I wonder what the other bouts are?

Big Time Wrestling in Seattle - August 18, 1982 - 10 Foot Steel Cage Match!

There was always such excitement when the main event had a steel cage!
But someone always figured out a way to escape the cage.

Big Time Wrestling - January 9, 1985 ~ Grudge Match!

I assume they mean Billy Two "Eagles" here.  These little newspaper clippings always had mistakes in them. Again, not sure if 85 was correct on this.  I  know things changed pretty quickly, but I started going in Spring/Summer of 1985 and there was no Keno Nagasaki, Don Running Bear, or Mr. Ebony.

Big Time Wrestling January 2, 1985

This seems like it would be earlier than 1985, but I am just going by the date written on the page.  Let me know if you know the real year.  I am guessing 81?

Big Time Wrestling July 1, 1981 ~ Clipping

Mixed tag match!  Usually when they did this, if the man tagged the woman, then the other woman automatically came into the ring.  The two almost never fought each other.

August 18, 1982 ~ 10 Foot Steel Cage Match - Clipping

Since I've been watching all of the older then my time matches on You Tube, I have noticed that
they really liked to have other wrestlers referee some of the matches.  And the good guys
usually called it right down the middle, of course.  I don't remember them ever using that in the late 80's and 90's.  It seems like Rocky Johnson is the special ref at this event.  I wonder if his son was in
attendance?

Big Time Wrestling in Seattle - Rip Oliver vs Bobby Jaggers - Early 80's

No date on this one.

Big Time Wrestling in Seattle - May 8th, 1982/3?

I always loved it when the midgets came to town.  They had a great comedy routine in the ring.  No matter what the card was, the midgets were always the best.  They had the same athletic ability, but were so much more entertaining than many of the other matches.  They have never gotten the credit they deserved.   Of course midgets is a derogatory term, as these fighters were just as good as their average sized counterparts, and not less than in any way.

April-May 1986 Seattle Center Arena event ~ Clipping

Not sure if these are the results of the last clipping.

It looks like 548 people attended this event, which isn't a lot of people in the Seattle Center Arena. But Jimmy "Superfly" Snuka will be a the next event, so you can be sure there were more butts in the seats!
